The next stretch of her almost nightly obstacle course would be more

difficult. She had to cut through Jason Moore’s backyard. Just yesterday,

the idiot had brought home a Doberman. Everyone in town knew he’d

bought the dog to protect the single, stragŹgly marijuana plant he had

growing in the middle of his mother’s total y organic vegetable and flower

garden. The law didn’t bothŹer him because he didn’t raise the plant to

sel , or use. He grew it because he thought it made him a bad boy. He

liked to walk around town wearing a cheap imitation leather jacket and

sporting a ragged bandanna tied around his head. By June, the south

Texas heat made the jacket so rank that no one would get near him. His

mother would eventual y sneak the jacket out of his room and burn it. Then

he would dig out his two favorite black Def Leppard Tshirts with their
